Visit to St Albans New Construction Centre

Last week the RDT team attended the Herts & Beds CE Club event at Oaklands College, showcasing the brand-new Construction Centre at their St. Albans Campus.

This state-of-the-art 3,000m² facility is the UK’s newest hub for training in construction trades. It features:

🔹 Specialist workshops for plumbing, electrical, and renewable energy installation
🔹 A Construction Lab and VR learning suite
🔹 IT classrooms and flexible teaching spaces

Sustainability is at the heart of this project, with air source heat pumps, solar PV panels, and bricks made entirely from recycled materials—a pioneering innovation in the UK! 🌱♻️

Claire Dolan, Vice Principal at Oaklands, kicked off the event, followed by a presentation from RDT's Richard, Tavener, Chair of this local Construction Club, on the benefits of industry partnerships and an exciting new work experience programme for students.

We also heard from the main contractor, RG Carter, alongside the project team Fusion Project Managers, DLA Architecture and Briggs and Forrester, before touring the impressive new facilities.

It was fantastic to see so many representatives from Oaklands College’s Construction faculty and industry leaders in attendance.

This centre is set to inspire the next generation entering the construction industry! A great step forward for skills, sustainability, and the future of construction.
