Throwback Thurs - Gracewell Care Home

Seven years ago, RDT Architects partnered with Lawrence Baker Ltd to deliver Gracewell of High Wycombe.

Project Overview:
This luxury 72-bedroom care home operated by Gracewell Healthcare was designed to offer exceptional care and comfort, combining elegant living spaces with state-of-the-art operational functionality to meet the needs of residents and staff alike.

Challenges:
The project required adapting a pre-approved, planning-consented design to meet specific operational needs while ensuring the building was both functional and practical for its future residents. Co-ordinating across multiple disciplines and addressing specialist supply items before construction presented additional complexities.

Solutions:
· Collaborated closely with Hamberley Development to modify the original design, ensuring alignment with operational requirements and tenant needs.
· Delivered 3D BIM-compliant construction information at the construction stage, enabling seamless co-ordination across all disciplines.
· Identified and resolved issues with specialist supply items in advance to avoid delays during on-site construction.
· Designed thoughtful, resident-focused interiors that balance comfort and style with practicality.

Outcomes:
Gracewell of High Wycombe was successfully delivered as a luxury care home that meets the highest standards of care and functionality. Key achievements include:
· A 72-bedroom facility designed to foster a sense of community and well-being among residents.
· Seamlessly integrated operational features for enhanced efficiency and ease of use for staff.
· Co-ordinated delivery of construction elements, ensuring a smooth build process and on-time completion.
· A shining example of collaboration between architects, developers, and operators, resulting in a facility that continues to set benchmarks for excellence in care home design.

RDT are proud to have been part of this successful project! 🏗️💛
