Building Care with Purpose

"Building Care with Purpose: Harpenden’s New Care Home Takes Shape"

Our Technical Director, Scott Smallwood, visited the site of this new 75-bed care home development in Harpenden, a project with Oakland Care that’s setting new standards in care home design.

Approach:
Our design approach focuses on transforming a former vehicle repair centre into a state-of-the-art care home, built around the principles of resident comfort, staff efficiency, and visitor accessibility. By emphasising functionality, sustainability, and community integration, we’re creating spaces that will truly enhance the quality of life for residents.

Construction Highlights:
1. Ground floor brickwork and blockwork are progressing swiftly, with some areas reaching the first-floor slab level.
2. Damp-proof and gas-resistant membrane installations are ongoing, ensuring the long-term integrity of the building.
3. Garden retaining walls are nearing completion, shaping the outdoor spaces to provide residents with enjoyable green areas.

Result:
Once complete, this modern care facility will offer 75 comfortable rooms and extensive indoor and outdoor amenities, enriching the community and fostering a nurturing, supportive environment. This project is a collaborative success with Oakland Care, Building Construction Partnership, Coast Consulting Engineers, Envision and Aedifice Partnership Project Managers.

Together, we’re raising the bar for care home environments through innovative and sustainable design.
